snow

Earlier this month we had our first ‘real’ snow. The kiddo was dressed and ready to go as soon as breakfast was finished.

I stuck around out there with him for a bit but then I got cold .. AND smart.

I realized that we live on the first floor now and that means we have a ‘yard’ in front where he can play while I watch through the window!! Makes him throwing snowballs at me so much more fun!!

April showers?…

4-29-2011 spring snow (1)

It’s been a cold spring… this morning we woke up to about three inches of snow.

The weather guessers on TV say it should be the last snow of the season. They also say we’re in for some major flooding as the snow pack melts.

I’m thinking it’s time to move back to a warmer state…

aaaaachoo!!

One more day to go and then ... it's the weekend!! Oh wait, that's not it. One more day to go and then the Kiddo's lower body is finally FREE. He is over the moon excited, I am nervous. I'll be doing this doctor trip myself (the Man has to work) and I've read a bit about spica cast recoveries, they aren't fun, and can take awhile longer then "normal". I think the Kiddo is motivated enough to work hard to get his muscles back into shape though so we're staying positive and waiting to see how it goes.

That is the good news. The bad news is that the Kiddo has a cold. It was bound to happen, after all for the last two months he's been sleeping with the window directly above his pillow open a bit. That is eight weeks of cold winter air blowing on his head.

Of course if my mom had suggested this sooner he might not be sick...

This is why the Kiddo loves his grannie so much, she thinks outside the box and comes up with crazy fun ideas. He was SO excited to get to wear a beenie to sleep, and it was still on his head the next morning (albeit a little skewed).

Yep it must be spring…

There’s only a few inches out there, I mean I can ‘almost’ wear my regular shoes and not get my feet wet… but only almost. The Kiddo says it’s a present for him, I told him if it was they should have waited a week to give it because he can’t go out and play in it until his cast is off. He is sad.

Four Feet / One Foot

I posted about a month ago about our first snow fall of the year. It’s always a bit of an event for me because I love snow, the fluffy white stuff is what makes the cold of winter worthwhile.

Cupcake seems to agree for the most part. She loves to run and play in it… pouncing around like a rabbit on speed, making and throwing her own snowballs with her nose, tunneling through and popping up a few feet further then where she dove in…

What she doesn’t like is using the bathroom out in it. She hates it, in fact she has, so far, refused to do it. “First snow” back a month ago and we were able to find somewhat clear spaces under trees for her to use. Last night we got approximately a foot of it (up to the top of her back in most places and above her head in others). She can’t find any place she’s willing to try, she wont even go on the sidewalk!! I hope she figures it out quick because it’s going to be a miserable bunch of days until she does.

Meanwhile I have pretty things to look at, all covered in white, and I may just manage to pull some holiday spirit out of things yet.

here we go again

The first snow of the year happened sometime last night. Her Majesty isn't happy, the normal five minutes outside to poop before breakfast turned into 20 minutes as she struggled to figure out what the heck the cold wet white stuff was on her feet. Finally I found a big enough clear spot under a tree that she could walk in circles till she was ready. I hope she gets used to it soon!
The Kiddo is over the moon about it. As soon as he saw that it had snowed he wanted to go outside and play in it. Make footprints and throw snowballs is what he said... I told him that mommy has a chest and head cold and does NOT want to spend the morning cold and wet so he'd have to wait till the next snow to play.

Weather or not

This is what I woke up too!! Not for the first time I had the thought that I really wish I could figure a way to move us back to Arizona. I browse the job listings for the Prescott or Mesa areas on a regular basis with the hope that maybe there will be a super high paying magical job out there that the Man or myself would qualify for. Not that I want to leave my friends or the Kiddo's doctors (a nightmare of mine is to move and not find a doctor that has the active experience and training that our current one does). Still I think the chance would be worth taking, and a move closer to my family would make me happy.
Then again this rash of cold/cool weather has really helped with the electric bill. May's bill was all of 33 bucks, June's bill is the same. Today of course the heater is on, but generally it's either an open or closed windows type decision and that type of thing takes no electric at all.

But coats keep you warm..

It snowed last night, it's still on the ground outside. Intellectually I know that it will melt pretty quickly today but I couldn't help but giggle while I watched the landscaping guys go around and fertilize the grass right over top of the snow.

The Kiddo said he really really wanted to go outside and make snow angels. Because angles can fly, and coats will keep us warm. So I asked him what was going to keep my nose warm? And he said "well, they make nose coats you know... it's like this (and he balled his little fist up to form a cup) and it will keep the snow from getting on your nose ... except when I throw snowballs at you!" And then he laughed like a loon.

Yeah we're staying in today, I don't need snowballs tossed at my nose. Especially snowballs filled with fertilizer!

I'm done playing nice. Stupid wimpy piece of crap winter. What the heck, sure it's crazy snowy in OTHER parts of the country but it's pathetic here. I'm taunting now... c'mon winter give me something... ....

Cold and dry

It's January, ... almost February at that. I should be knee deep in snow. This year I can think of only one actual snowstorm happening. Of course we've had a few tiny ones as well, but the fact that the Kiddo has only worn his snow pants ONCE is a little pathetic. I dislike looking out the window and seeing brown grass in the winter... I should be seeing snow, and growling about the noise of the snow blowers as the maintenance guys clear the sidewalks in the early am. Instead I'm paying a ridiculous power bill for just dealing with COLD. There should be no cold without snow. Is it a wonder I'm cranky??

Shaking in our...

Apparently there was an earthquake last night. It was a small one (2.9) and south of us far enough that we didn't feel anything. Still it makes me wonder, I think that's the second one in a month (there was another small one, a 2.3, out in Magna Dec 23rd).

Right about now is when..

I start to wonder if I was a very intelligent person to move to a state with snow... because while I like snow I kinda dislike the temperatures that come with it. I suppose I should be glad there's no snow in the forecast today but no snow seems to mean that things just feel/get a LOT colder. I'll take snow with a bit warmer temps any day!!

Welcome Fall

Today is officially the first day of fall. Which I knew the minute I stepped out the front door last night to take the trash out, brrr!! The autumnal equinox occurs at 5:18 p.m. (EDT).
Right now, at 9:45am it's 57 degrees. I turned off the a/c and opened all the blinds. It is a relief to have a house filled with sunshine instead of the lights on cave I've been living in. I may even throw all the windows wide later this afternoon when it gets to be a respectable temperature.

I love fall, I love how crisp the air feels and smells. I love sleeping with the windows open* and I love how it makes me think of campfires and marshmallows. I really hope that this year we can take the Kiddo on his very first camping trip. Though we'd have to do it soon and I think my October is a little full already ;)

*which generally also means no a/c and a much lower power bill.

June Weather...

Gotta love it... big thunderstorm with lightning and rain..
And heavier rain...
And what's that,... no it can't be not in June...
Yep it is, hail... pea sized hail no less. ow!!
And of course during all this there was about a 15 minute conversation with the Kiddo about what hail is vs snow and rain and why he couldn't go play in it

more snow

More snow over night, and the weather people are calling for snow through the next several days. At least it finally feels like we live in Utah!

The funny thing... The night before last somebody took our driver side windshield wiper and our antenna! The Man can't get over why they would take the antenna and then the wiper off the opposite side of the car.. since wipers are good for either side. Maybe they just weren't smart enough to know that? Fortunately for us he left for drill before the snow started yesterday, and he came home after it stopped. We had to make a quick run to the store to pick up new wipers after he got home though.

The other funny thing, his units Christmas party last night was canceled (they did it because the roads would have been really slick and dangerous). . Which isn't funny in and of itself. It's kinda bah humbuggy. No the funny part is it was a pot luck party and the Man had signed us up for rolls. We now have a hundred rolls sitting on the counter that I have NO idea what to do with. I need extra big freezer zip lock bags or something so I can freeze them and pull them out every time we're invited over to dinner at the inlaws. That way I can always cheerfully volunteer to bring bread *chuckle*

Snow Snow Go Away...

The weather decided to finally get into the winter groove. We haven't had any snow since the last time I posted about it. That was November 5th and it lasted all of a day. Now the weather people are calling for continual snow accumulating 2-5". Normally I'd just make the Man drive us down to Cabellas to see Santa anyway but the fates are really working against us, he's got drill this weekend. I guess we'll just have to wait to go see Santa next weekend. It's making me cranky.

Seriously? Snow??!!

Holy smokes it's been cold. Yesterday the inlaws met us at the apartment before we all caravaned to Toele to watch the nephews weekly football game. Anyway before we left here I mumbled something about how the weather lady said the night before that it was supposed to rain and snow all day. My father in law said back that he really didn't think it was going to start until the afternoon, at which point we'd be safely back home.... Ironically when we got there we suffered through about 30 minutes of slushy wet crap falling from the sky before the wind pushed the storm past us and the sun came out (it was all of 48 degrees). It was actually a decent game too (they lost, 0-6).

The cold and rain and ickyness helped us realize that The Kiddo needs a new coat (the one he has we bought two years ago, it's sized 18 months and the sleeves are a tiny bit short on him... he grows SLOW). Anyway we gritted our teeth and went and found a coat for him at Target last night. If the Kiddo's coat doesn't fit he'll get sick and I'd rather spend the money on a coat then on medicine!! I'll take a picture sometime today and put it up for y'all to see.

We did get to watch the Utes game (we won, of course hehe, that makes 7 strait wins no losses woot!!).

Anyway we went to bed last night and woke up to find THIS:
The weather report says 39 degrees today with rain and snow showers. So far it's just gray so we'll see what happens. Still (here comes a small whine session) I'm NOT READY FOR SNOW. We've been having an unseasonably warm fall and I was super happy that it was 70 degrees or higher on very nearly a daily basis. And now it's 40 with snow?!!! *deep breath* They DO say that by the end of the week we should be back up to the upper 60's or low 70's so there's hope I suppose. *shiver*
