Spring Pictures?–Survey says….

IMG_20110406_102645……IMG_20110406_102653

The Kiddo’s cast comes off just in time for spring pictures. I didn’t even know they DID spring pictures, back in my day I think they only did one set of school pictures per year. Of course we have the option to skip them, but then the small package IS only 10 bucks…

They have poses to choose from for this set of pictures (last set it was backgrounds). I’m leaning towards pose two. The Man likes five, but it is really similar to the start of the year picture that was taken so I don’t know. What are your thoughts?

And since I’m asking for thoughts… the Kiddo has to memorize a nursery rhyme for a mini class/parents presentation. He’ll recite it June 1st so we have plenty of time but I thought we’d get a head start on it anyway. He can dress up and bring props if he wants (which could be fun). Suggestions?

Rob likes pose one, I like pose two. As for the Rhyme I'm going to leave that up to mama cause she seems to know all the fun, unique, ones :)

I like pose 4. What happened to pose three?

I like the ewy gooey worm or the peanut butter and jelly mamma taught him.

The pose I like is the fall pic that is on my fridge :-)

I can really see the Kiddo acting out Jack and Jill ... what with the trudging along with a pail and a Jill (stuffy?), then falling, ouchy on the head, trotting home, and bandaging the pretend injury. However, as with other Mother Goose rhymes, it has roots in real life which aren't particularly pretty:

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got Jack, and home did trot As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.

French (history) connection!
The roots of this child's nursery rhyme is in France and the Jack and Jill referred to are Louis XVI who was beheaded (lost his crown) followed by his Queen Marie Antoinette (who came tumbling after). The words and lyrics were made more palatable for the nursery by giving it a happy ending and has further been altered by the passage of time - the actual beheadings occurred in 1793. The first publication date for the lyrics of this nursery rhyme is 1795 which tie-in
with the history and origins

a good alternative would be:

Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?
The king was in his counting house counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlour eating bread and honey
The maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!

Action Nursery Rhyme
Lovely lyric to this children's action nursery rhyme. The rye was purchased for sixpence to attract birds. Blackbirds, and other song birds, were actually eaten as a delicacy! However a court jester may well have suggested to the court cook to bake a pie crust and place this over some blackbirds to surprise and amuse the King! It would not be unreasonable for the blackbirds to look for revenge hence "When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!"

Phaidra, pose three is the child reclining sideways on a beanbag chair, I didn't think that was a very masculine pose so didn't bother putting it in the running.

C, I like that one too (the fall pic) heh

Jack and Jill is actually the first nursery rhyme that I thought of, the Kiddo would crack up getting to pretend to fall down.

I wonder if I can find a good looking inexpensive black bird stuffy....

Black bird stuffy? You could sew one out of black fabric, with maybe yellow for eyes and beak. It wouldn't need to be big like the crows (or ravens ... I don't know the difference) that hung around northern AZ; the birds-in-a-pie were the smaller birds that came in a flock to eat the bait and got a net thrown over them. For that size, you could do more of a 2D but with wings added and it would be very birdlike. (bird shaped paper airplane)

To C.

Wow, some of those nursery rhymes are more bloody than I recall. Good to remember that it is not just the fairy tails. :)

To Psyche,

I think you are right, bean bag not so manly or Chance like.

I think I like pose one. Is Chance able to sit cross-legged like that after 6 weeks of having them spread out in the opposite direction?

I'm no good with the nursery rhymes. Don't really remember any from childhood all that well and since we don't have any kids ourselves, not really exposed to them again.

:o)
