Ready… Set…

Four days until the Kiddos cast comes off. To be honest I’m a little scared, I don’t enjoy being on call 24/7 but by now I’m used to it. When that cast comes off he’s expecting to run and jump and play just like he did before. It’s going take a few weeks to build back up the strength in his leg and he doesn’t hear me when I try to explain that to him.

On my end I’ve already finished most of my school work for the week. My individual paper that’s due next Monday is finished, and all of my daily contribution posts are saved in a draft folder as well (the online classroom is a forum type format and we are required to post two "150 word comments” on four separate days). All that is left to do for this week is to turn in the work, and do another group paper. I have planned within my group to have the paper finished prior to Friday, so the weekend should be clear.

To help get ready for the event (Friday at 10:30am) I’ve packed a bag with the Kiddo’s jeans, underwear, socks and shoes, and put it in the car. Eight weeks of dressing his lower half in nothing but adult size small cut off sweats and I don’t think I’d remember to take “normal” cloths otherwise.

I’ve also purchased some special lotion. Three years ago when the Kiddos eczema was really bad I started researching what we could do to help make things better. I read a lot of different things about baths with bleach (uh really?… not gonna happen with a six year old) and I read about different types of lotions that were supposed to help. There was one that had amazing reviews no matter where I looked. But it was pricy, and I couldn’t quite bring myself to spend 30 bucks on 8.4 oz of lotion. I mean really?

Then the Kiddo broke his leg, the giant torture machine of a cast went on, and he stopped taking showers. His skin freaked out… his non broken leg was so dry it flaked, and his feet were beyond mentioning. I tried normal lotion, and then I tried the slightly more expensive “for extra dry skin” store bought stuff. I’d put it on in the morning and by mid day his leg would be flaky again. So I caved, I called my sister (she can be a pretty good enabler sometimes) and I purchased the little pot of lotion.

lush

It’s amazing stuff, a little goes a long way (thank goodness) and his legs stay moisturized for days (rather then hours). I still feel a little guilty spending so much on lotion, I never would have for myself, but I am also very pleased with how well it works for him. I think it will last long enough to be worth the cost, and it has kept him from itching to death because of dry skin.

$13 = (take two)

ThredUp box number two got here yesterday. Five pairs of pants and three shirts. The brown pair and the gray ones aren't adjustable but I think I can take them in a bit so they fit him, the other three are all perfect. They are all (minus teh gray athletic pants) cargo style, which is the Kiddo's favorite.

I'm VERY pleased with the whole thing. I sold both pairs of his, to small, police car shoes on Ebay (the 8's went for 15, the 9's went for 20) which more then paid for both boxes of used cloths. In the end I got him an entire new wardrobe with no money out of pocket, I can't ask for better then that.

$13 = (take one)

A few days ago I mentioned in one of my posts that my MIL took us shopping last Tuesday for some school clothing for the kiddo, he ended up with new shoes and five shirts. That was really great of her to do and gave us a good start on his wardrobe. Still, all his "old" shirts are a bit too small and we knew we'd need more.

I found a box listed on ThredUp that had 4 short sleeve shirts, 4 long sleeve shirts, and one pair of black cord pants. I went ahead and paid the 13 bucks shipping and crossed my fingers.
Well we got the box on Saturday and it was perfect!! The pants are adjustable waist (the only kind that will fit him) and the shirts are all in like new condition.

Now we have 9 short sleeve shirts (in all honesty he could probably use a couple more 4T short sleeve tshirts but my school shopping budget it completely tapped out at this point so we'll make due with what we've got). He's got 4 long sleeve shirts. He has a (new) pair of 4T pants, and his old pair of 3T jeans. So really the only thing left to buy at that point was another pair of jeans (in 4T).

I priced them and the cheapest I could find were $9.99!! Of course my first thought was "well shoot for that price I might as well browse ThredUp and see what I can find with pants". Wouldn't you know there was a box listed with five pairs of 4T adjustable waist pants (jeans and cords and khaki) and two shirts. I admit it, I spent another 13 bucks and ordered that too. How could I spend almost that much on ONE new pair of pants when I could get five for the same price? Besides even with his the growing he's doing the pants will most likely fit him until next summer (4T's are several inches to long on him) so it's a great investment for the entire school year.

As soon as that box gets here I'll take a picture and let you all know if it was worth the price.

Barefoot running

My younger brother has thing thing about weird attire. The last time I was home we had a really long talk about barefoot running, and these running sandles he'd just purchased that were made out of tires with leather straps to hold them on. Now I'm all for minamilistic shoes and thought they looked rather neat, but I couldn't imagine how they would stay on your feet well enough to actually RUN in them (not to mention they had absolutely no stub your toe protection)

Anyway today I was taking a break and found an article discussing barefoot running and these trendy, almost not there, running shoes called Vibrams. I'm thinking they look funky enough he'd like them, and I always did have a thing for muppet socks... they even come in pink!! If they didn't cost 80 bucks I'd even buy myself a pair.

Yet another Kitchen Gadget

I have a pasta cooker that's a tall cylinder, you pour boiling water into it and then close it up and wait, I like it well enough but it doesn't work for anything but spaghetti. This one looks like it would work for all the pasta types I cook, elbow macaroni, spaghetti, and lasagna noodles. With my pasta pot having a bad tendency to boil over I usually end up standing at the stove for the entire 10 minutes cooking time fanning the pot with a plate to keep things under control. This Fasta Pasta cooker seems like it would be a life saver, and it's got quite a few positive reviews. I want!

kick back..

and relax... is this not the neatest looking chair you've ever seen?? I want one, or at least I want to spend a good hour sitting in one just to see if it's as comfortable as they say it is.

Sunday Shenanigans

Sunday we took a day for us, we went down to Cabela's and wandered around for quite awhile just looking at stuff. I think it's the one store that The Man doesn't mind window shopping in.

I'll give it to the kiddo, he only asked once if we could go see Santa. (We had our picture with Santa taken there last year, I loved it... They have an amazing Santa and we will definitely be doing that again this year).

The funniest part was when the Kiddo asked to see Santa the Man didn't hear what he said. He asked him "I didn't hear you, what did you want??" And the Kiddo said "I want a train".

hehe I think he was a bit confused don't you?

I want this... and this...

As I sit sewing I hear a little voice:

"mom, can I have a present?"

I say "no hon, not right now, you don't NEED a present. What are you doing anyway"

"I'm reading mommie, see the toys?"

I get the One Step Ahead catalogue every couple of months and he loves LOVES to read through it. It's full of toys, and gadgets, and cloths, and stuff for little kids. They have a section on their web site for toddlers and I've signed up for that catalogue too but I have yet to receive one *shrug*

His biggest favorite is usually the car steering wheel, but this month it's the ride on remote control airplane. Seriously, how can you beat THAT!
