Scary but...

I came across this as I browsed around trying to keep awake this morning. It's scary but, in a train wreck sort of way, I kind of want it. Can you imagine the conversations you'd have when company came over? And I bet the kids would fight over who got to sit in it!

Course I don't think the Man would let me get it anyway, and I think it might freak out the dog.

Mirror Man? People do some very odd things for attention. He almost looks cool, but I can't seem to get past the creepy factor.

Chips for dinner

Yesterday after the Man got home from work I had to do a really quick grocery store run to get milk. While I was there I passed a giant chip display. I usually glance at them because Doritos seems to be coming out with some really odd flavors lately. It's fun (and relatively inexpensive) to buy a bag of chips and see if these different flavors actually taste the way they are supposed to.

The one that jumped out at me yesterday? Cheeseburger!! I bought it and yeah, it actually does taste like a cheeseburger. They are really really good. Then, last night, I was telling a friend about them and she told me that she had found some chips that were supposed to taste like ketchup fries* Now all we need is some coke flavored chips and we have a whole meal.













*I have not tried these ketchup fries and in no way endorse eating chips as a meal *grin*

Rodents..

I had a guinea pig when I was a teenager. I loved the little guy, he was cute and friendly and very easy to care for. Lately I've been thinking about maybe getting another one, it would be my pet but I'm sure the kiddo would really enjoy it too. It's mostly just a thought though, and probably not something I will actually do. Having a pet ties you down and makes travel difficult. I don't travel all that much but when I do have the opportunity to I'd really like to be able to just DO it and not have to worry that I don't have anybody nearby I can use as a pet sitter.

The reason I am talking about this very odd subject is this.

My initial reaction was; holy cow that's one big 100lb rodent!

My second reaction was; that's just a little creepy looking, what was cute on a tiny guinea pig is more then odd on a giant one.

And my third reaction was; what really? A heated outdoor rodent house, and it's very own pool? That's some hard core pet committment there!! And I thought dogs were a lot of work.

Tattoo followup

Not that any of us are surprised but that Belgian teenager I wrote about a few days ago who claimed a tattoo artist drew 56 stars on her face, rather than the three she asked for, has admitted she lied.

h/t my mom who sent me the follow up email a couple days ago. I saw this article about it today as well.

Apparently there is a girl in Brussels that went to a tattoo parlor to have a couple stars tattooed on her face.

When she left the place she had half her face covered in stars... she says she fell asleep and the tattoo artist did his own thing. He says she asked for what she got but when her dad saw it and threw a fit she started in with the whole "not what I asked for" thing.

I have one thing to say: Um.. how do you fall asleep while having a tattoo done on your face??!! Let alone anywhere else on your body. I tend to believe the tattoo artist on this one, though he's quite an interesting looking character himself so who knows (check out the video at the article link above).

Wolf Moon

Well folks it's that time again... tonight (that would be Saturday January 10th for those of you who can't keep track) our moon will look the biggest of all 2009. Step outside this evening, closer to moon rise (i.e. sunset) and take a look, say the obligatory ooooooo it's purty, and then go back inside where it's warm before you catch pneumonia* you crazy nut.

It seems like we just did this a month or so ago for 2008. I didn't post about it, I know I didnt' because I distinctly remember pointing the moon out to the Man while we were driving home from somewhere and then thinking "oh crap I forgot to post". Needless to say I'm attempting to avoid getting the guilts by letting you know.

Purple Carrots

The Kiddo LOVES his carrots. He eats them like they are candy. Usually I take the lazy way and buy the baby carrots (yes I know, they're just shaped chopped up big carrots) but this past week I decided to mix it up a bit and buy the big ones. He seems to love them even more then he loves the little ones. He totes his big carrot around the house munching on it like bugs bunny. It's a great thing to have a kid who likes his veggies!

I read an article a little while back about calcium enhanced carrots. Purple in color. I did a little google-foo and found that apparently carrots come in all sorts of colors, red, white, yellow, purple... Who knew?! Apparently purple carrots have all the same nutrients found in orange carrots and they also contain anthocyanins which are potent antioxidants.

You can buy seeds for purple carrots (or any of the colors really) off of ebay or amazon for fairly inexpensive. Rather makes me wish I was back in a house with a small garden area so we could try them out.

I've been searching to try and find the original article I read about the genetic altering of the carrots to add the calcium but can't seem to find it. This article is almost as good, it talks about some of the benefits of the modified carrots and some of the risks. Weather you go read the article or not I highly suggest reading the included link which tells how the myth that carrots help eyesight got started. If you don't already know the story, it's interesting reading!

Well folks apparently Human evolution has come to a standstill. I guess in todays cushy world survival of the fittest no longer relates. *sigh*
